/Ayurveda teaches us that like increases like and that opposites balance. Winter is considered a Vata-dominant season, characterised by cold, dry, and windy qualities. During this time, incorporating seasonal fruits that balance and nourish the body is recommended. Depending on your geographic location, some of the best winter fruits according to Ayurveda include:
Apples are considered excellent for balancing and nourishing Vata. They are sweet, slightly sour, and have astringent qualities. They provide warmth, fibre, and natural sugars. Cooked apples are easy to digest and can be soothing for Vata.
Citrus fruits like oranges are high in vitamin C, which is beneficial during the winter to support the immune system. Their sweet and sour taste can help balance Vata.
Bananas are sweet, nourishing, and easy to digest. They provide a quick source of energy and can help stabilise Vata during the colder months.
Dates are sweet, sticky, and warming. They are a good source of natural sugars, providing warmth and energy. However, they should be consumed in moderation due to their high calorie content.
